I decided there needs to be something to keep everyone on their toes. Driphtyr in full-plate armour would be nearly invincible on horseback... Guns give him something to fear, and ALL characters should have several fears. Aside from guns, Drif's is losing those he cares about, especially Kaira.
if you get in details, different materials and way of fabrications gives different results faced with different kind of armors - modern bullet prooves shirtrs are not as tough for common modern 'melee' weapons I heard, for now (like a dagger)
Mmm. Different parts of different armour can go well together too. Driphtyr mainly only focuses on plate around his chest and on his left arm (for defence). Most of his other armoured parts are covered in leather until close to the end of the book.
My favourite part is sitting and figuring out who uses what. A lot of knights and soldiers tend to remove armour they don't have much of a use for. Driphtyr builds up to more, but discovers all he really needed was what he began with. Light, and protected the vial places.
Can be a good choice - one of my OCs, Ley, come from the very urban llothite world, so I figured the choice of weapons I gave her made sense (rapier and dagger, like some forms of fencing), in a street fight way
I'm still not sure which kind of sword Driphtyr should use. The "longsword" of the 13th and 14th centuries was mostly used in one hand, but, the "longsword" of the 15th and 16th centuries took two. At the moment, I call the older longsword "the broadsword", since it's kinda in the generic middle position.
What are your thoughts? Driphtyr mostly uses a weapon one-handed in earlier chapters, and as planned in later books, he'll have a horse instead (but then the whole footsoldier thought...) I dunno. So much to plan.
OR I go primitive Eberron path.
